v1.1.1 Comments

Firstly let me say, I really like your program and all the relationships that it allows.

When I tried to view a report, it opened up the txt file in Notepad, not my web browser so all I could see was code. When I saved the report then opened it up from within my browser it works fine. Is there a way for it to automatically look for my browser?

I can not find a way to link a new Activity to a Recurring Task (only to a Project). Should this be possible?

Also, just thought for the future, your category and group drop down menu under contacts are great. If we could go in and edit these category/groups somewhere it would be even better.

Question: are you planning for this to be networkable in a future version?

Keep up the great work...

I'm glad you liked the Organizer!

1. To automatically open Report in your browser, you may do the following (if you work in Windows): go to your saved report file, do right mouse click, choose Open With, choose your browser, mark 'Always use the selected program'.

2. Recurring task generates activity when activation time comes; if you wish to activate it earlier, change activation date or press 'activate now' in the Recurring Task details screen. As soon as activity is activated, you can create as many sub-activities as you need.

3. I noticed the idea to edit contact categories and groups, thank you for that.

4. The software is technically networkable, and I definitely see it there in the long term.

I just downloaded and installed Golden Rules Organizer. I find it really great but a bit glitchy with the Java. It keeps creating a notepad on my desktop each time I open the program. i am on an important project and was looking for a light project management type software. This seems to be very nice, but again, why is it creating a log file. Please let me know what is wrong? This is the log file it creates:

Right, this small log file is created at start-up, and isn't really useful. I will do my best to handle it in the up-coming release.

I've been finding the program very helpful in tracking my work with multiple projects. Unfortunately, the program would not open today. I am getting the following error messages:

Under Exception:

Under Wrapped Exception:

at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled GRO and restored Windows XP to an earlier point when GRO was working, but still will not open.

Any suggestions on how to get the program to start?

I suggest you to remove Java temporary files using Control Panel-->Java, remove your GRO desktop shortcut, and then reinstall the Organizer.

Tell me whether this helps.

Please tell me what is your current Java version, and whether any Java or Windows events happened immediately before the problem occurred (e.g., new Java version installed).

Hi.. I just downloaded goldenrules.. it seems to be a useful tool for keeping my things under control..

I could not really get what the following sections are for and how i can use them:
* values
* slots
* tags
* logs

there is not enough information on the user manual about those items. A tutorial would be great..

Another issue; why I can not assign a project to a contact like an activity?

thanks and congratulations

Hakan,

I'll try to answer:

"Values" - your hierarchical mission statement, see Mission Statement Tool screenshot on the home page. Projects and activities usually can be (and should be) related to one or more parts of this statement, called 'values'.

"Slots" - hierarchical view of various time slots of your daily life, for example:
home-->arrangements-->outdoor arangements, work-->creative activities, work-->team meetings-->weekly meeting with Joe. You may assign activities to time slots, and then get picture of what needs to be done during certain time slot (e.g., what to talk about with Joe, which outdoor arrangements to do).

"Tags" - another way to group your bookmarks (listings), activities, and logs (the latter discussed below). For example, you may assign some bookmarks to tags "Worth study" or "My Favorites", and then view all favorite bookmarks in one place.

"Logs" - allow you to keep diary of your daily activities, inclusive time tracking.

You asked why projects are not assigned to a contact. Projects are usually consisting of multiple activities, each of them may relate to different contact.

Feel free to ask more questions,
Michael Gvirtzman.

By the way;

About assigning the projects to contacts; yes you are right activities are assigned to contacts which is very useful. On the other hand, in my work environment, projects do also have owners. So this is just an opinion; activities are ok, the projects may also have owners.

thanks
